The Rewind Perentie 6 Cylinder, an icon reborn

Starting life as an Australian designed and manufactured, unapologetically rugged military vehicle, the Perentie GS was intended for general hauling of troops and equipment on and off road. Originally powered by a tough but rough naturally aspirated 4BD1 3.9 Litre, 4 cylinder diesel, backed by a 4 speed manual transmission with integral transfer case, the Perentie was wonderfully fit for purpose.

After retirement from the military, the Perentie is reborn as a RP6. Taking the fundamentals of an extremely rugged and well tested workhorse, transforming it into a modern, habitable and powerful Australian iteration. Destined for daily use in any environment, be it city commuting, beach runs, or much, much further afield the RP6 will continue a life of storied service.

Process

Stripped to the bones for a complete ‘as new’ rebuild. Rewind Motor Co. procures the base vehicle, every component is attended to and either reused or replaced, new bespoke parts added then reassembled to an extremely high standard. To adhere to the uniquely rugged ideals of the Perentie, the RP6 will feature assemblies from renowned Australian and global suppliers dedicated to high quality craftsmanship. From a galvanised and painted chassis, power steering, hand crafted leather interior, modern hifi/instruments and tailored transmission tunnel, to a durable and high quality paint finish, the restoration is time consuming, process driven and extremely rewarding.

Power

The RP6 is powered by the venerable, naturally aspirated 4.0 Litre DOHC ‘Barra’ petrol inline six cylinder, matched to the world class ZF 6HP26 six speed torque converter automatic. The RP6 driveline is incredibly smooth, powerful, unstressed and reliable, designed to stand the test of time.

The engine is installed as new after thorough machining, with uprated valve springs, oil pump, pistons, exhaust, the list goes on. The transmission and all running gear is also as new, ensuring a capable driveline far beyond the current power level. Drivability and robustness have been the cornerstones of the RP6 build, the componentry is not just rebuilt, but completely resolved to produce an enduring and enjoyable experience.
